Mitchell was also stationed in Alaska for two years, where he managed the staff and programming for two television stations and three radio channels. While there he doubled the amount of live content by implementing efficient scheduling and encouraging innovative original programming.
After seven years of ascending quickly through the ranks, he left the Navy and moved to San Francisco. He worked as the Director of Production for a streaming media company at the turn of the century. There he launched a package of live and posted streaming media programming. He designed and built the companies three live production studios and established and oversaw field, studio and post-production for their San Francisco and New York offices. He also served as their domestic and international on-the-road producer for live streaming media events.
Mitchell’s more recent work has focused on narrative films. While he still cuts his own films such as the short Filter (2006), other projects include the festival favorite feature film The Sex Movie (2005). He also cuts the occasional documentary for filmmaker Mark Brecke including their latest project focusing on the crisis in Darfur.
